Their shows have been watched by 100s of millions of people around the globe.
Now we are exploring a re-imagining of their classic shows and how they can evolve for modern TV and film.
THE SHOWS
H.R. PUFNSTUF (1969)
OVERVIEW
H.R. Pufnstuf was the first Krofft live-action, life-sized-puppet program. The show centers on a shipwrecked boy named Jimmy (Jack Wild) and his talking flute named Freddy. They are lured to Living Island by a wicked witch named Wilhelmina W. Witchiepoo (Billie Hayes), where she plans to take Jimmy prisoner and steal Freddy for her own purposes. The Mayor of Living Island is a friendly and helpful dragon named H.R. Pufnstuf, who rescues Jimmy and protects him from Witchiepoo.
THE BUGALOOS (1970)
OVERVIEW
The Bugaloos takes place in Tranquility Forest, where a band of peaceful, teenage, insect musicians named the Bugaloos reside. The Bugaloos are pursued by a evil, jealous old crone named Benita Bizarre, who lives in a gigantic jukebox and uses it to broadcast her own brand of blaring, obnoxious, unpleasant music. Benita is furious at the popularity of the Bugaloos’ more melodic, upbeat sound and she plots elaborate, unsuccessful schemes to destroy them.
DR. SHRINKER (1976)
OVERVIEW
Dr. Shrinker (Jay Robinson) is a mad scientist who creates a shrinking ray that can miniaturize anything. Three teenagers — Brad Fulton (Ted Eccles), B.J. Masterson (Susan Lawrence) and her brother Gordie Masterson (Jeff MacKay) — crash land their airplane on an island. As they make their way to the only house on the island, they meet Dr. Shrinker and his assistant, Hugo (Billy Barty). Dr. Shrinker, in an effort to prove that his shrinking ray works, shrinks the three people down to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. The remainder of the series was different efforts by the ‘Shrinkies’ to return to normal size, while Dr. Shrinker and Hugo want to catch the trio so that they will have physical proof that the ray works for whatever world power wants to buy it.
